Caption: (p30) Gelatin silver print of a lost carbon enlargement of the lost ambrotype believed to have been made by Preston Butler, in Springfield, Illinois, during the summer of 1858.

Observations: Cheek mole: seen. Hair part: on left side. Jaw asymmetry: marked. Highly retouched (or degraded), but: Fullness of right lower lip visible. No eye deviation. Lips are pursed -- is he trying to keep his lower lip from appearing large?
