Ostendorf3 (p110)
The man seated at left is Ward Hill Lamon. Ostendorf opines that Lamon, being nearly as tall as Lincoln and wearing a stovepipe hat, was asked by the photographer to sit, to allow Lincoln to dominate the picture.
